I pulled the teak twart and cap on the keel box yesterday. Sanded them with 100 grit paper and then began restoration process by filling in the splintered and deteriorated ends with epoxy. I used masking tape to form a mold of sorts on the ends and then filled the voids with West System epoxy (resin + 206 hardener). I then moved on the paddle/boom prop and rudder head and coated them in epoxy as well (resin + 207 hardener). I will do the same with the other teak and then finish it all with several coats of varnish. My hope is that the epoxy finished with varnish will add strength and minimize maintenance on the wood over time.
