Mercury Rising: The Repair & Refit of the sailboat "Quick Silver", a Tanzer 16

This is the story of the second life of a sailboat. A 1973 Tanzer 16 that has spent the last 12 years out of the water, much of it collecting leaves and debris as the wheels of the trailer slowly sank into the earth. I acquired the boat on Aug 27, 2008 and this log will chronicle the cleanup, repair and refit of "Quick Silver" over the coming months.

Rudder Mount Backer and more Teak Work

I finished fabricating, fitting and epoxying in place the new "T" shaped piece of marine plywood to serve as reinforcement/backer for the rudder mount.  I was also able to finish fabricating the teak mounting plates to go under the head sail turning blocks and cleats that will go on the foredeck on either side of the mast.  I coated the plates in epoxy to seal and strengthen and will then finish them in several coats of varnish.  The team thwart and cap to the keel box got their final sanding after several coats of epoxy and and now their fist coat of varnish.  They look beautiful, albeit much darker than I had hoped.  I'll post pictures later.
